First Visits

What To Expect At Your Child’s First Visit

When visiting Petaluma Kids Dental Care, you can expect a seamless and enjoyable experience for the entire family. As a local Petaluma dentist, we love getting to meet new families and introducing little ones to a life of fun, informative dental care. Here’s what you can expect at your child’s first visit.

Step 1

Cleaning

During your child’s first appointment, our licensed Registered Dental Assistant will perform a gentle, yet thorough preventive cleaning to promote a happy, healthy smile.

Step 2

Exam

Next, Dr. Austin or Dr. Gupta will carefully take a look at your child’s teeth and gums to ensure their oral health is on the right track and free of any dental issues.

Step 3

Treatment Plan

After their preventive treatments, Dr. Austin or Dr. Gupta will discuss your little one’s oral health and recommend a tailored treatment plan made just for their smile success.

How To Prepare Your Child For Their Dental Visit

Did you know that amazing appointments start outside of our practice doors? Here are a few different ways to set your child up for a great first visit at our office.

Stay Positive & Use Child-Friendly Dental Terms

Speak highly about all things dentistry! This will help your kiddo associate positive feelings toward their first visit. Feel free to use fun when relating to dental verbiage. We use the term tickle toothbrush, sugar bugs for cavities, sleepy juice for injections, and koala nose for N20.

Be Their Brushing Buddy

Make brushing a fun part of their daily routine by playing their favorite two-minute song while you brush and floss together.

Get Artsy

Time to break out the crayons! Draw a picture of your smile with your child. Don’t forget the teeth - 10 on top, 10 on the bottom!

Read On

Curl up with your child and dive into a kid-friendly dental read, filled with lots of pictures and lovable characters.
